Instructions how to root your Minix Neo G4 and X5 Android computer with a Rockchip RK3066 processor.

This tutorial works for Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) only. Tutorial for Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) below…

  1. Download Moborobo (Phone Management Software) directly here: MoboroboSetup_V2.0.7.501(Moborobo_En_official).exe or grab the latest version here: moborobo.com/download/
  2. Download a modified version of SuperOneClick – Short Fuse.
  3. Install Moborobo and start the program
  4. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled on your tablet (Settings –> Developer Options)
  5. Connect your MINIX device (X5, G4, etc.) to your PC via the OTG port (micro USB port)
  6. Wait for Moborobo to detect the device and install the drivers
  7. If you have problems during the installation e.g. your minix g4/x5 isn’t detected, go to Settings > USB > Connect to PC
  8. Extract SuperOneClick and run SuperOneClick
  9. Click on Root

During the rooting process of the Minix Neo X5 it’s going to warn that the device is already rooted. Simply continue…

Done. :)

Besides rooting it installs busybox and SuperUser on your Minix computer. Useful tools by the way…


Update 1

As the first instructions didn’t work with the stock rom (Android 4.0) here is a tutorial how to root a minix neo x5 with Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) rom:

  1. Download Moborobo (Phone Management Software) directly here: MoboroboSetup_V2.0.7.501(Moborobo_En_official).exe or grab the latest version here: moborobo.com/download/
  2. Install Moborobo and start the program
  3. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled on your tablet (Settings –> Developer Options)
  4. Connect your MINIX device (X5, G4, etc.) to your PC via the OTG port (micro USB port)
  5. Wait for Moborobo to detect the device and install the drivers
  6. If you have problems during the installation e.g. your minix g4/x5 isn’t detected, go to Settings > USB > Connect to PC
  7. Download TPSarky-VonDroid-Root.zip and unpack.
  8. Run TPSparkyRoot.bat and follow the instructions. (It restarts your device 3 times)
  9. Optional: Install SuperSU/SuperUser/BusyBox from Play Store. (If not installed in the previous step)

This process installs also the app “root explorer”. You can delete stock apps etc. (Be careful!)
